New media artist, Sculptor

Flávio Malaguti is a Brazilian artist from Florianópolis, where he currently lives and works. Through digital sculpture and photogrammetry, he creates surreal, biomorphic figures that explore themes of body dysmorphia and identity as a cis man within the LGBTQ+ community. Inspired by anthropomorphism and natural textures, his work blends the familiar with the alien, challenging perceptions of reality and the subjective divide between what is seen and what is constructed. His art invites reflection on the boundaries of form and transformation.

Berlin, Germany (from January, 2025 to March, 2025)

During my artist residency at GlogauAIR, I’ll be exploring the concept of armour as both a physical and symbolic form through photogrammetry and 3D sculpting. Using my own body in various poses as the foundation for digital sculptures, I plan to reimagine armour as a reflection of identity, strength, and vulnerability. Inspired by its historical significance, I’ll experiment with combining natural textures and surreal, biomorphic forms to question ideas of protection and transformation. This project will draw deeply from my personal experiences with body dysmorphia and my perspective as a queer man, focusing on the tension between what we hide, what we reveal, and how we shape our sense of self.
